Homemade Body Products

Ok, so today I experimented with some DIY body products.

Lip Balm
1/2 t cocoa butter
3 1/2 t shea butter
5 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops peppermint essential oil
Melt butters in the top of a double boiler.
After they become liquid, remove from heat and add EO's. Stir and pour into your containers.
Let sit 12 hours before adding lid or using.

Facial Cleanser
1 oz Aloe Vera Gel
2 oz Olive Oil
1 oz Rose water
4 drops Rose Essential Oil
2 drops Grapefruit Seed Extract
Blend all ingredients in blender. Keep in fridge. Shake before using.
*(you can make your own rosewater: Bring 1 cup water to a boil, then remove from heat. Add 1 T dried rose petals and let steep for 20 minutes, then strain.

Exfoliation Scrub
1 T coconut oil
1 T baking soda
Stir ingredients together and rub on your face and neck. Rinse with warm water.

Face Mask
2 T Aloe Vera Juice or Gel
1 t witch hazel
1 t clear honey
1 1/2 T Indian Healing Clay
2 drops Lavender Essential Oil
Mix aloe, witch hazel and honey. Then add clay powder and stir. Then add EO and mix again. Apply to clean face and neck. Leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Your face may be a little red after you rinse. That is normal. The clay increases circulation. The redness will go away within 20 minutes.

Facial Toner
4 oz witch hazel
20 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops tea tree essential oil
Combine above ingredients and shake.
I use this 2x a day, after I wash my face in the morning and before I go to bed.

Vitamin C Serum
1 T distilled water
2 T aloe vera gel
1 t vitamin c powder
Combine all of the ingredients in a container and shake well. Let sit for 12 hours before using. Use within a week.

Hair Mask
3 T Extra Virgin Olive Oil
3 T Manuka Honey
Microwave 20 seconds.
Lather into your hair and leave 15 minutes.
Shampoo with a sulfate free shampoo.

Pillow Spray
This is great to spray on your pillow at night.
4 oz or 1/2 cup distilled water
50 drops Lavender Essential Oil
1 t rubbing alcohol
Place all ingredients into a spray bottle and shake.
Spray on your pillow before going to bed.

Whipped Coconut Body Lotion
1 1/2 c extra virgin coconut oil
4 T shea or mango butter
1 t vitamine E oil
4 t aloe vera gel
5 drops vanilla essential oil
10 drops lavender oil
Combine coconut oil and butter in a blender and blend.
Add vitamin E and aloe and blend about 2 minutes, scraping sides as you go. Add EO's and blend another 30 seconds. Place in your containers and leave the lids off for 12 hours.

I have been making my own lotion for a few years.Today, I also began making my own deodorant. Aluminum is in most deodorants and has been linked to breast cancer. I have tried several of the deodorants without aluminum and most of them don't work. The ones that do are very expensive.

3 T shea butter
3 T baking soda
2 T cocoa butter
2 T corn starch
2 Vitamin E Gel caps (puncture and squeeze out the oil) or 1/8 t Vitamin E
Essential Oils of your choice (I used 6 drops ylang ylang,
6 drops of tea tree and 6 drops of sweet orange)
Directions: Make sure the dishes you use are really clean. Place first 4 ingredients into a glass bowl or measuring cup. Microwave 30 seconds and stir. You might need to microwave 30 more seconds. Stir until melted and mixed thoroughly.
Add vitamin e and essential oils and stir again. Pour into a glass jar or other container and let sit out overnight, uncovered. Then cover and use daily. I just scoop out a small amount, about the size of a dime, with my finger and rub onto my arm pits.
*You can divide it in half and put half in the fridge for use later. It lasts about 3 months not in the fridge.

Dry Hand Lotion
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/8 cup shea butter
1/8 cup cocoa butter
1 T aloe vera juice
1 T liquid oil of choice (like sweet almond, jojoba, etc.)
5-10 drops essential oils
Heat the shea butter, coconut oil, and cocoa butter over low heat until melted.
Remove from heat.
Add the aloe vera juice, liquid oil, and essential oils and stir to combine well.
Pour in container of your choice.  I used small canning jars. I put in the fridge overnight and then took them out in the morning and covered with a lid. The consistency changes depending on the temperature. This lotion is greasy but works great to put it on before you go to bed.

Coconut Body or Face Lotion
4.5 oz Coconut Oil
1.5 oz Emulsifying Wax
16 oz or 2 cups Distilled Water
8 oz Vegetable Glycerin

10-15 drops Essential Oil (I used 9 drops Patchouli, 4 drops sweet orange and 2 drops lavender essential oils for a body lotion: you can use whatever combination you like)

In the top of a double broiler, melt coconut oil and emulsifying wax. Heat distilled water in a separate pan until steamy. After oil and wax melts, remove from heat.  Whisk hot water into oil/wax mixture. Whisk for a minute and then add glycerin and whisk another minute. Then add essential oils and whisk another minute. Set aside to cool. Keep some in a small container to use now and put the rest in a large jar and keep in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Natural Bug Spray
Combine the following ingredients in an 8 oz spray bottle and shake well. This is the only bug spray we use now. I keep a bottle sitting on our patio and in our car. No chemicals and it smells good!

1/2 c. witch hazel
1/2 c. distilled water

50 drops essential oils:
Peppermint (10 drops)
Lavender (10 drops)
Eucalyptus (10 drops)
Lemon (10 drops)
Tea Tree (10 drops)

Hand Sanitizer
2 T distilled water
4 T aloe vera gel
1/4 t vitamin E oil
10 drops Thieves Essential Oil
Combing all ingredients in a container of your choice and shake well.
