Goetta

My mom has been making this for as long as I can remember. A lot of people have never heard of goetta. I grew up in the Cincinnati area, where it is popular. My family loves it!

Ingredients:
6 cups water
3 t salt
1 t pepper
2 1/2 c pinhead or steel cut oatmeal
1 lb ground beef or turkey
1 lb sausage

Directions:
In a crock pot, add water, salt and pepper. Heat on high for 20 minutes.
Add oatmeal and cook 90 minutes on high, stirring occasionally.
Meanwhile, brown and drain ground beef and sausage.
After oatmeal has cooked for 90 minutes, add meat to mixture.
Stir, cover, and continue to cook on low for 2-3 hours.
Remove lid. If water is on top, let cook for 30 more minutes.
Stir well. Take mixture out of crock pot and divide into 2 loaf pans.
Cover with saran wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Remove from pans and wrap in saran wrap. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
Slice and fry on a griddle until brown on both sides.
Eat with eggs, hashbrown casserole or pancakes or on toast with honey.
