I don't usually write a lot because I want you to get right into the recipe without having to read things you are not interested in; however, today I have to share with you something I wish I had known years ago.
Last year I purchased a Blendtec blender. It was the best purchase I think I have ever made. Yes, they are expensive and I had to save up to get it, but it was so worth it! Not only can I make awesome smoothies, but it makes great milkshakes for my husband, my girls use it all the time for smoothies and juices. It also makes turkey sausage, soups, dressings, peanut butter, sauces and so much more! I have been cooking for years and have every kitchen gadget there is, but this blender is by far my favorite. You can go to blendtec.com to look up some of their recipes and see the amazing things it can make. The recipes on the website are healthy recipes too! Oh yea, the mixed drinks are amazing!
So, if you want to add something to your kitchen arsenal, get a Blendtec! They even sell them at Sam's Club and Costco. So, now that I've shared my infomercial with you, here is the recipe for my favorite smoothie. I have this for breakfast every day and it is amazing! I know it doesn't look great, but trust me it tastes great. The cool thing is you can mix it up and put whatever fruits and veggies you like in it. You can buy frozen or fresh fruit.
Ingredients:
1 cup coconut water
1 T chia seeds
1 orange or 1/2 lemon or 1/2 lime or 1 apple
2 celery stalks
1/2 cup parsley
1/2 cup peaches or mangos
1/2 cup berries (I like raspberries or blackberries)
1 cup spinach or kale
Directions:
To make it quicker and easier in the mornings, I prepare several individual bags ahead of time with the peaches, berries and spinach/kale, and place in the freezer. That also makes my smoothie cold.
Add the above ingredients to your blender in the order listed. Make sure the frozen ingredients go in last. Press "smoothie" and you have a great nutritious breakfast! Add a piece of sausage or turkey for some extra protein.
